I just found out about new networking opportunities for senior executives who are in a period of job transition. Centennial Strategic Recruiting Solutions organizes a series of events to help executives build their networking circle, and join interesting discussions with “like-minded executives.” These events are closed to C-level professionals. I think this adds value, as people network with those who understand their situation and probably are in similar shoes. Here is a meeting calendar.

Today, I decided to register myself at Ziggs.com, where supposedly you organize & connect with people in a professional way. One of the Ziggs’ features that caught my attention is the ability to see who Googles you. For example, if Isend my resume to the HR office, Ziggs will let me know if someone from that building used my name in the search engine. Addionally, Ziggs has a whole arange of other features that help you establish and maintain your online image and expand your bsuiness network.

Last week, I was speaking at the networking event on a topic of personal branding. The goal of the discussion was to help people differentiate themselves.
People rarely think about themselves in terms of a “product” that they need to sell. Quite often at my events, I ask the attendees if they are in sales. Only few people say Yes. I wonder why. It seems to me that we have a certain predisposition against people who are in sales. We immediately start thinking about stereotypes like used car salespeople and loan officers who call us during dinner hour. People are hesitant to sell themselves, but if you are looking for a job, it is your full time job to sell yourself.

Recently, I saw a group on Facebook “Hire Craig Stanton for The Best Job in the World!” Craig is using his network to get a job that he wants.
“Queensland Tourism is offering me a chance to work on Hamilton Island for six months, but I’ll need your help. The first stage is to capture their attention with my video to get into the 50 short listed applicants. Then it’ll be a vote by the public.”
