Search engine optimization has to incorporate two strategies. The first is called on-page optimization, which involves making changes to your website. The second is called off-site optimization, which involves taking actions outside your website.
On-page SEO updates your pages to improve their relevance for targeted, industry-specific, and often localized keywords. On-page optimization includes modifications to meta tags, changes to website architecture and navigation, link structure, content writing, keyword usage, and much more.
The following are several quick but crucial on-page SEO principles:
- If you’re aiming for high search engine rankings, focus each page around particular keywords or key-phrases. Your content on each page has to include these keywords or key-phrases 2-5% of the time, but not more.
- Avoid having pages with URLs that read like: www.yoursite.com/id098987/kgji9094.html. If you can’t read the URL, search engines can’t either.
- Your domain name should reflect the main key-phrase of your site, and, whenever possible, be a .com domain.
- The first sentence in the body text and the first words used per sentence are the most important ones for advanced on-page SEO necessities.
- The H1 and H2 Texts are highly important as they show the search engine the main subjects and Table of Contents for the content to be indexed. Make these keyword friendly and reflective of your page’s title tag.
- Links that connect the pages of your site together must have your targeted keyword terms in them as well as all links throughout the site.
- Your images should be described via ALT Tags with the keywords you are optimizing for.
- Keyword Density should be around 8-10%. This way your content is still informative and doesn’t real like a spam. If you have a 1,000 word article, then 80-90 of those words should have variances of the search terms you are targeting.
